I was in a local (30 miles) lumber distributor when I ran across some Ugandan Mahogany. I've done some research on the web and found it's also called "munyama". It's a rough cut piece about 2" x 9" x 30". It was about $15, which is about $30 cheaper than regular African mahogany of the same size, so I picked it up.   It's more blonde than regular mahogany too. I was curious is this a species (spelling?) that could be used for back & sides? If so I'll try my hand at resawing . If not I'll use it in a different project. Thanks.

Hi Nathan,

Almost any hardwood can be used for back and sides. They will all sound differently, but many will work. This may not be a true mahogany, but then there's 100's of woods around the world being called mahogany that aren't.

Nathan it's african mahogany. It should work fine.

Kahya anthotheca is also known as krala (Ivory Coast): mangona (Cameroons): munyama (Uganda).
